Aresti Technical Support Questions

Q How does Aresti work with Microsoft Vista-capable Visio 2007
A It seems to work OK.

To set the default file locations, the menu commands are:
Tools, Options, Advanced... and then the File Path button at the bottom of the dialog box.

To allow the Aresti Macros to run, the menu commands are:
Tools, Trust Centre, Trusted Locations... and set C:\Aresti as a trusted location.

Q Can I show the Fair Play System Super Families for the figures in my Free Programme?
A Yes, if you upgrade to Aresti 2008 via the downloads page.
Q Sometimes when I close Visio, I have a number of dialog boxes left open on the screen behind the Visio pages.
A Yes, if you upgrade to Aresti 2008 via the downloads page.
Q Using Visio 2003 or later, sometimes when I move a control point, not all the right bits of the figure move along with the point.
A The bug is not really a bug, but is brought about by a 'development' in Visio 2003 onwards that was not there in earlier versions.

In Visio (old and new) you click a figure once to select it and then, if you click again on part of it, you will select a layer within the figure. In the old Visio versions, the little selection box squares at the apices of the shape went grey when you selected an internal layer. This difference was obvious to see. Also, in these older versions, you could not access the 'control points' on the embedded layer, only on the top layer. (Most Aresti shapes have three layers: a layer for the black lines, a layer for the red dashed lines, and a top, control layer).

In the newer Versions of Visio, the second selection (which is almost certainly done inadvertently) still leaves you with green vertex markings, albeit with a small cross on them. What's more, the control points are accessible and will just affect that single layer, not all three layers.

So you can get weird things like these:

This issue was resolved in Aresti 2006. If you are still getting it, you definitely need to Order an upgrade to 2008.
Q In Visio 2003 I can't run the Aresti macros.
A To run the Aresti macros in Visio 2003 you will have to set Visio's macro security level to "Low". Using Aresti macros under this setting will not harm your computer.
Q What version of Visio do I need to run Aresti software?
A Aresti 2007 and 2008 require Visio Standard 2002, Visio Standard 2003, of Visio Standard 2007 (Vista)

Q What is the latest version of  Aresti?
A Aresti 2008, which is downloadable after purchase.

If you have Aresti 2007 you can upgrade free to 2008 via the tech support downloads page.

If you have any earlier release (Aresti 1.2 or later), up to and including 2006, you need to purchase an upgrade to Aresti 2008 for the 2008 aerobatic season. Upgrade prices are given on the email Order Form page.

Q Should I remove earlier versions of Aresti before installing the latest version?
A I recommend that you use Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, to remove older versions of Aresti before installing new.  This is better than simply deleting files as it keeps the Windows Registry "clean". If you are upgrading by downloading files, use the new files to overwrite old versions with the same names.
Q On installation I get a message like:

Error: "Unable to locate file '<temp folder>\msftqws.pde\st6unst.exe'. Would you like to browse for the file yourself?" or file may be 'vb6stkit.dll'.

A This error can occur due to damaged media or setup file, left-over files from a previous installation attempt or a machine-specific issue.   Information is available from Microsoft Support at:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q216/2/31.asp

Q When I start Visio, I get a number of dialogue boxes and error messages that originate in the Aresti Add-On routines.
A When you install Aresti 2008, you need to modify the default file paths for Stencils, Templates and Add-ons. You do this by clicking on Tools, Options, FilePaths... from the Visio drop-down menus, and then typing 'C:\Aresti;' as the first entry in the file path statements. If you mistakenly type this in the "Start Up" file path, the executable routines will run automatically when Visio is started. Delete 'C:\Aresti;' from the beginning of the StartUp file path statement.
